Watering Guide: New Plant Life
How Much Water? - Soak to the depth of the rootball (refer to the sizes below)
How to Water? - Shove the hose to the bottom of the pit by the rootball. Run the water on low until water appears at the surface.  Spraying water by nozel or sprinkler should continue until the fresh pit backfill turns soft to the depth of the rootball. Test with a shovel handle to determine the penetration of the water.
When to Water? -
1. If winter has been dry with extensive freezing, begin watering immediately until spring rains occur.
2. During the hot/dry season - anytime there has been no rainfall for 3 days. Do not consider quick thunder showers as rainfall. Only slow prolonged rains can penetrate to the entire depth of the rootball.
3. If the fall is dry, use the same procedure as above. Plants must be thoroughly watered before the winter freeze.

Why Water? - Until the plant’s new roots penetrate the soil, the plant depends on nature and people to provide them with sufficient moisture to live. On average, this will take at least one year.
